  Dear Doctor,

We appreciate your interest in the training program in Cardiovascular Disease at Windsor University School of Medicine & associated hospitals.

The primary goal of our Fellowship program is to train individuals for careers in academic cardiology. To achieve that goal, the trainees are offered a two year program that has been structured, two years of which are clinical training. A structured program in basic science is offered. A board clinical experience is supported by inpatient cardiology ward service, coronary care units, cardiac catheterization laboratories, echocardiography, nuclear laboratories, and electrophysiologic services as well as consulting and outpatient activities.

The training program seeks applicants who plan to become expert in treating in cardiovascular diseases. Experience is provided by programs supervised by faculty in the Division of Cardiology, at the Windsor University School of Medicine & associated hospitals.

The first year consists of rotations in all the basic clinical areas, including cardiac catheterization, coronary angiography, cardiac consultation, coronary care unit, clinical electrophysiology, echocardiography, and nuclear cardiology. There is an ongoing didactic program with a weekly cardiac catheterization conference, clinical care conference, non-invasive conference, journal club, arrhythmia conference, and cardiovascular basic science seminar.

The content of the final clinical year will vary depending on the specific interests of the trainee. Specific content will be decided after discussions between the individual and faculty. The clinical experience could be general or devoted to disciplines within cardiology, such as Catheterization / interventional, nuclear studies, echocardiography, electrophysiology, or heart failure / transplant.

Shortly after the start of the program, the trainees visit with individual faculty members to discuss the structure of program. The fellow then selects a preceptor and develops a program for the next two years with the preceptor.
