The main objective of the program is to train highly competent, responsible Anesthesiologists. Every effort is made to train the resident assume the role of consultant on the patient care team, while also participating as a direct care provider in the operating room and post operatively. The mission is to provide a world-class educational program with in depth practical experience in Anesthesia.
The overall goal of this rotation is to contribute to your education as primary care physicians. The practice of Anesthesia itself incorporates knowledge and technical skills in the areas of physiology, pharmacology, medicine and critical care. Our intent in this period is not to teach students a great deal about the practice of Anesthesia per se, other than a general introduction. This rotation has been designed to teach students those topics from the Anesthesia armamentarium that are, or should be, part of the knowledge base of all physicians, such as airway and fluid management. The exact topics can be found in the reference material provided. Students who find themselves developing an interest in Anesthesia can expand on the more Anesthesia-specific areas in the course of their daily discussions with staff, or during subsequent elective time. Electives in the Department are tailored to the educational goals of the student, allowing us to cover Anesthesia in a much more comprehensive way.
